The campaign Mothers4Children is the vision of Lisa B, the American born model and actress. Lisa is working with her UK charity partner, The Foundation for the Relief of Disabled Orphans, to direct financial and other forms of assistance to children in need via charity partners on the ground in economically depressed areas.
"Just weeks after the birth of my second son, I was reading a feature by ITV News Correspondent, Chris Rogers in the Mail on Sunday. Working undercover he discovered thousands of children living in appalling conditions in Romania's institutions. The shocking images I saw of abandoned children in Romania - tied to walls, rocking from side to side, malnourished and left to live and die like animals, I am told, were not images of Romania 20 years ago - the failed communist dictatorship. They are the Romania of today. A country which has just been accepted into the European Union and a country that promised the horrific maltreatment of its orphans would be consigned to the past. This is happening on our doorsteps. And even more shockingly, Chris exposed the trade in children who are sold because their mothers can't afford to keep them. Because the trade is illegal, anyone, including paedophiles can buy them.
"I am now working closely with a handful of NGO's (Non Government Organisations - Charities) to try and make immediate change to help better the lives of some of the most unfortunate little ones living in these desperate circumstances. I only have to look into my own children's eyes everyday to be reminded of these poor children's plights.
"These Children are some of the world's most vulnerable citizens. The inhumane and degrading treatment that they are forced to endure is intolerable and violates international human rights."
Lisa B.
